Wedding Cakes

My cakes are designed especially for you. Although designs may be repeated or copied, most of my cakes are unique for your memorable event so you are unlikely to see another one quite the same. All cakes are made specifically to order.

The basic cake ingredients are of the finest quality and the choice is yours. Traditional wedding cakes are usually well -matured rich fruit cakes, but it is possible to have plain, lemon, orange or chocolate sponge, ginger or even carrot cake. The cake is then covered with almond flavored paste and white or tinted sugar paste. Usual shapes are round, square or hexagonal. Heart or petal shaped cakes can also be made.

The sides of the cake may be left plain or enhanced with ribbon. Additional decoration may be a simple piping of shells or a frill. Lace or fine piped icing may be added and ribbons inserted. Cakes may also be decorated with swags of sugar icing or sugar drapes of material. The side of the cake can be further decorated with embroidery and the cake board iced and decorated as above. Ganache cakes with hand made chocolate curls in white,milk or dark chocolate are also popular.

Flowers
Fresh or wired sugar flowers can be added, even silk ones should you prefer. All sugar flowers are made to tie in with the bride’s color scheme. Brides sometimes like to bring specimens of their bouquet e.g. roses so a near perfect match may be made in sugar. Although very fragile, if kept dry and out of the sun, they will last almost indefinitely, e.g. in a display cabinet.

Cost
• A 10-inch cake is likely to cost around £120.

• Wedding cakes of three tiers commence at £310 for a sponge and £340 for fruit, depending on design. A variety of shapes can be chosen. If cakes are provided to be decorated, a deduction of £10 - £15 per cake is allowed.

• Sugar flower bouquets are normally around £30 per bouquet, but may be more or less depending on the amount of work involved.

• Fresh flower bouquets vary in price according to whether garden or bought flowers are used and also the type and quantity required.
